Did you really write "had great articles"?

Welcome to the enlightened "dark side." I hope you know almost everyone else in our field considers "library journals" and "great articles" to be oxymoronic. ;)

I'm thinking about the sister-city approach, but my adviser is suggesting that I narrow in on just cooperatives that actually share resources with each other.

The subject is a passionate interest of mine, and something I hope to build on later. Thus, the extra time for this class is really just laying the groundwork for a bigger project down the road. Lucky me! :-)

I wonder if you have checked out the sister city program, and if the libraries in a pair of sister cities have shared programs.
I also wonder why you picked such a poor subject. What subjects were done a year ago, and which would be the easiest to copy? Either a subject should be as quick and painless as possible, or a subject in which you have a passionate interest so the excess time spent is a pleasure.

I heartily disagree with the idea that there is no venue for reaching librarians other than ALA. To wit: I have followed this discussion on numerous blogs and lists. Some were related to ALA, but most were not. I am grateful that ALA provided the venue for "this" particular topic, but librarians are having these discussions online everyday.

But then, what form could this imaginary conversation venue take in order to accommodate the most librarians and the greatest diversity of librarians?

Honestly, I think this is why so many people are trying so hard to change ALA from within. It's difficult and slow, yes, but there's really no other venue that will reach the number of libraries and librarians that ALA can. Before such a venue can be created in ALA, the culture has to change.

After thinking about this session for a while, I find it interesting that no one asked "Do libraries need to innovate?" It may be the nature of the people attracted to that particular meeting. The question keeps rattling around in my head, though - do ALL libraries need to innovate? How much? Is non-technological innovation enough?

I've wondered about this connection as well. Although I'm sure the argument is that these are the people who public library patrons want to read/view/etc., so having them at the conference makes librarians aware of them, it *is* very very odd.
